The World Union for Progressive Judaism is deeply concerned by the reports of an attack at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, Michigan. Our hearts are with the congregation, the children and educators who were present, and all those who acted swiftly to protect the community.
A synagogue must remain a place of safety, dignity, and spiritual life. When violence reaches a house of worship, it affects Jewish communities far beyond a single city.
Temple Israel is part of our global Progressive Jewish family, and we stand in solidarity with the community of West Bloomfield and the broader Detroit Jewish community.
At a time when antisemitism is rising in many parts of the world, we must remain united, proud of our Jewish identity, and resolute in confronting hatred wherever it appears.
