Apply for Financial Support for Local Leadership Development Initiatives in the Diaspora

Dear Friends,

We invite you to submit applications for a grant through the WUPJ for local or regional programming for 2025.

The aim of this grant is to support the leadership development of WUPJ regions, communities, organizations, and educational institutions. We define leadership in the widest sense and include all types of leadership – such as governance, education, youth, young adults, families, spiritual, music, activism, community, Israel, and the environment. We are especially interested in innovative ideas and collaborative initiatives. The initiative must have a component that involves WUPJ leadership and staff. We encourage you to consult with the Center staff about your program before submitting your application.

The application may be for a standalone program or part of a larger initiative. For example, it could be for workshops that are part of the regional biennial or a summer/winter camp.

Examples of applying organizations include regional organizations, affiliated congregations, day schools, rabbinic councils, etc. In general, the more collaborators in a program, the better.

You may apply for any number of programs that will take place in 2025. Submitting a request is not a guarantee of financial assistance. The WUPJ reserves the right to approve or decline any requests, and all decisions will be at the discretion of the WUPJ steering committee.

Content Requirements:

  • Must have a leadership development component (community, regional, educational, organizational).
  • Shlichei Tzibor training program applications are viewed favorably.
  • Can be submitted only through the WUPJ, have an international component, and tie in with the WUPJ mission and at least one of the WUPJ Values.
  • Part of the budget must include the translation of Judaic/leadership development materials to your native language and/or adaptation to your culture.
  • May include transportation and accommodations for a visiting lecturer/facilitator.
  • Must include an evaluation component to assess the impact and outcomes of the program.
  • The committee favors applications that involve collaboration between two or more organizational bodies. The WUPJ constituent organization applying can invite an outside organization to be a partner.

Technical Requirements:

  • The program cannot be 100% funded by the WUPJ – there must be at least one other funding source.
  • The organization must be prepared for the possibility that funds will be disbursed as reimbursement upon showing receipts. Therefore, the organization must be prepared to pay upfront and wait for reimbursement.
  • The organizers must designate someone from the project who will travel to Jerusalem and represent it in the program of the WUPJ Connections Conference 22-25 October, 2025. (It can be one of the organizers or an emerging leader in the project)
  • The applying organization must fill out a report as outlined in the application form, including sending photographs taken with the WUPJ and sponsoring national institution logos as applicable.
  • The deadline for applying is 27 December 2024.

A steering committee appointed by the WUPJ Management Committee will review the applications and give an answer by 31 January 2025.

Wishing us all much success,

Phyllis Dorey OAM, Chair

Rabbi Sergio Bergman, President
