The WUPJ stands in solidarity with the victims of the violence in Amsterdam
On the night of November 9-10, 1938, violent groups took to the streets in Germany, desecrating synagogues, burning Torah scrolls, persecuting and humiliating Jews, and shattering the windows of their businesses and places of worship.
We believed the night of November 9-10 2024, would commemorate the past. Yet on this day, in the Netherlands, a year after the Pogrom committed by Hamas terrorists in Israel, the world is witnessing a present where hatred of Jews resurfaces in the streets. This toxic venom manifests as anti-Zionism, a monstrous form that mutates but never disappears: the hatred of Jews and the negation of the right of the State of Israel to exist as the national home of our people.
We will not remain indifferent. We call on the free democracies of the world to awaken from their silence and confront the impunity that allows such acts to persist. Eighty-six years have passed, and once again, here in Amsterdam, we face broken windows, while antisemitism and hatred towards our people remain alive.
The WUPJ (World Union for Progressive Judaism) strongly condemns these events and demands truth and justice from the Dutch authorities. We stand in solidarity with our community in Amsterdam and the victims of this antisemitic violence, and we once again proclaim “Never again” and “Am Yisrael Chai” (the people of Israel live).
