The World Union for Progressive Judaism (WUPJ)
The World Union for Progressive Judaism (WUPJ) connects 1.8 million Reform, Progressive and Liberal Jews across six continents, seven regions, 50 countries and 1,200 communities by:
- Developing and nurturing new Progressive and Reform congregations wherever Jews choose to live
- Training rabbis, community leaders, and Jewish educators worldwide and ensuring resources for their growth and support
- Engaging the next generation of Reform Jews with youth groups, camps and young adult programs in dozens of cities
What We Are Seeking: The World Union for Progressive Judaism is led by a team of diverse, dedicated individuals around the world who are committed to pursuing and realizing the World Union’s mission together. The Governing Board and International Leadership Council are new leadership structures within the World Union for Progressive Judaism.
We are now inviting nominations for both bodies for the next leadership cycle, and are seeking individuals who:
- are passionate about building diverse, international Progressive Jewish communities.
- are experienced in programming or synagogue life in a WUPJ region.
- are interested and experienced in one of WUPJ’s key strategic areas including education, youth, advocacy, and community development.
- are excited about being part of a new phase of organizational life, and thinking boldly and creatively about the Jewish future.
Nominations are now open until August 28th for positions on both the Governing Board and Leadership Council, for the next three-year cycle. The WUPJ invites nominations of individuals across the spectrum of ages, genders, Jewish backgrounds, and languages. You may nominate yourself or someone you believe would be a great fit for WUPJ.
What you will be doing:
The Governing Board has the fiduciary responsibilities for WUPJ including guiding and supporting the President, overall oversight of the organization, approval of the budget, consultation and advice on organizational governance and major initiatives, as well as assistance in development and fundraising initiatives.
It is composed of 12 to 14 individuals from throughout the WUPJ regions including five officers. The term of office is three years with an allowance of a second term if re-elected.
The members of the Governing Board should provide regional breadth but not represent a particular region. The Governing Board will meet no less than every other month (6 times per year) regularly, and members will also work in smaller groups to progress initiatives and programs. Many of these meetings will be by Zoom or other remote options.
The International Leadership Council works to connect and nourish diverse groups and individuals in the regions throughout the world. You will be representative of our diversity in age, cultural background, ethnicity, technical and professional expertise, language, and areas of passion and interest. Partnering with the professional staff, you will actively participate in growing the Movement, expanding awareness of the WUPJ and its mission, developing and cultivating future leaders, imbuing the regions, congregations and individuals with a greater sense of the opportunities and rewards available through networking with other communities throughout the world. As a member of the Leadership Council, you will help to lead initiatives, participate in programming areas of WUPJ, assist in our financial resource development and generally be the face of WUPJ throughout the world.
