WUPJ Statement on the Two Year Anniversary of the Invasion of Ukraine

שָׁל֨וֹם ׀ שָׁל֜וֹם לָרָח֧וֹק וְלַקָּר֛וֹב אָמַ֥ר יְהֹוָ֖ה וּרְפָאתִֽיו׃
May there be peace, peace, to the far and to the near, says the Eternal One, so that I can heal them.
(Isaiah 57:19)

As we mark the solemn anniversary of the second year since Russia started the war in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, The World Union for Progressive Judaism, through our Ukraine Crisis Fund, stands in solidarity with all Ukrainians. Both within Ukraine and abroad, innocent Ukranians continue to endure the traumatizing consequences of this ongoing conflict.

The devastating impact of this war persists, inflicting untold suffering and hardship upon countless individuals and communities. As an organization that believes in the value of community, we know that together, we can make a meaningful difference in alleviating the suffering of those affected and supporting Jewish communities across the country. The Ukraine Crisis Fund reaffirms its unwavering dedication to providing support to those in need, both in Ukraine and among Ukrainian refugees seeking safety and shelter elsewhere.

Amidst the chaos and turmoil, we hold steadfast to the belief that peace will prevail and that the day will come when the guns fall silent and the wounds of war begin to heal. Until that day arrives, the World Union will continue its vital work, offering assistance and relief to those who have been displaced, traumatized, and bereaved by the ravages of conflict, as well as supporting meaningful Jewish life.

In these challenging times, let us draw strength from the words of the prophet Isaiah, who reminds us of the enduring value of peace: May there be peace, peace, to the far and to the near, says the Eternal One, so that I can heal them. (Isaiah 57:19)

We offer our prayers for an end to the violence and a swift resolution to the crisis so that all may know the blessings of peace and security.

May peace prevail in Ukraine, in Israel, and all the world.
