The World Union Responds: Mourning Notre Dame and Sacred Spaces for All

wupj press release

The World Union representing nearly 2 million members across five continents is devastated to see the destruction of the most symbolic building in Christendom.

For 850 years the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris has seen the extraordinary development of Christianity throughout Europe and has housed some of the most beautiful works of art that humanity has been inspired to create. The ancient timbers have echoed some of the most sublime music ever created.

We know that Notre Dame will be rebuilt and it’s magical creativity will be restored but we are sad that the people of Paris and the whole of France will have this centerpiece missing from their hearts, especially at this time just a few days before the holy period of Easter.

All religious groups must mourn this terrible loss and we look forward to seeing the Cathedral of Notre Dame restored to it’s former glory.
