  • The World Union extends its condolences to Dr. Philip Bliss, OAM, WUPJ Executive Board Member, and his wife Andrea, on the passing of Philip’s sister, Diana. Please join us in wishing the Bliss family much comfort among the mourners of Zion and may Diana’s memory be for a blessing for many years to come.

NOVEMBER

  • The World Union extends its condolences to Rabbi Joel Oseran, VP Emeritus of International Development of the World Union, on the passing of his sister, Sylvia Ehrlich. May her memory be for a blessing.

APRIL

  • The World Union mourns the passing of Bertha Sherman, z””l ,who died on April 16 at the age of 96. She was the widow of Rabbi Dr David Sherman ,z”l , founding rabbi of the Cape Town Reform Congregation. They were married in 1947.Bertha was a rebbitzin par excellence. There was not an aspect of congregational life that she was not involved with. A teacher by profession she particularly active in every aspect of education in the congregation. Her boundless energy extended into the broader Jewish and general community as well.Bertha’s passing truly marks the closing of the chapter of the founding generation of Progressive Judaism in South Africa. May her memory be for a blessing.
  • The World Union extends its condolences to Dora Brenner on the passing of her father. May his memory be for a blessing.
  • Mazal tov to Ruth Cohen on the birth of a great grandchild – her first great grand daughter. May your family be blessed with health and happiness.

MARCH

  • The global World Union community sends its condolences to Rabbi Naama Kelman, Dean of Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion (HUC-JIR), Jerusalem campus, and Rabbi Levi Weiman-Kelman, Rabbi Emeritus of congregation Kol HaNeshama, on the death of their beloved mother, Jacqueline Kelman. Her legacy continues to bless our entire community through the leadership and values of her children. Zichrona Livracha.

  • The World Union mourns the death of Dorothy Teitelbaum, beloved wife of Len Teitlebaum, chair of the World Union Investment Committee. May Dorothy’s memory be for a blessing.

DECEMBER

  • Mazal tov and congratulations to Rabbi Fred and Sue Morgan of Melbourne, Australia who welcomed a grandson, Dembe Stewart Morgan, in early December. May your growing family enjoy many days of health, happiness and joy together.

OCTOBER

  • Please join us in blessing the birth of Maya Ruth, newest grand daughter to World Union Chair, Carole Sterling, and her husband, Jay; daughter to Lauren Sterling and Simon Wolfe; and little sister to Raffi. We wish the family much health and happiness together for so many years to come – Mazal Tov!

SEPTEMBER

  • Our hearts go out to World Union supporter and Board Member, Dennis Gilbert and his entire family on the tragic passing of his son, Shane Gilbert. May his memory be for a blessing.

  • Mazal tov to Rabbi Jordan Helfman and his wife, Jemma, on the birth of their son, Dov. May the family, including Dov’s three older siblings, enjoy many years together of health and happiness.

MAY

  • Condolences to our dear supporters, friends and visionaries, Nani and Austin Beutel on the passing of Nani’s mother, Millie Greenberg, at the age of 105. We wish the Beutel’s much comfort in the and strength in the memory of their times together and May Millie’s memory be for a blessing for many years to come.

  • Condolences to Sue and Kim Klau on the passing of Jim’s sister, Lucille. Sue and Jim are both long-time board members of the World Union, the Union for Reform Judaism, and key supporters of our work in the Former Soviet Union. We wish the entire Klau family comfort and strength in their family and community and may Lucille’s memory be for a blessing for many years to come.

  • Our condolences to Mike Grabiner, former Chair of the WUPJ, and his wife, Jane, on the passing of Mike’s mother. May the Grabiner family know no more sorrow or suffering and may they find comfort and strength in their family and community, including World Union leadership and staff.

JANUARY

  • Mazal tov to Rabbi Joel Oseran, VP Emeritus International Development of the World Union, and his wife Rochelle, on the birth their first grandchild, Gal, to their son, Ilan, and his wife Ada.
  • Our condolences to Arthur Roswell, long-time supporter of the World Union, on the passing of his sister, Elaine R. Roswell, on December 23, 2017, at the age of 86. Elaine was born to the late parents of David and Florence Roswell in New York, NY and formerly of Hamden and New Haven, Connecticut and New Rochelle, New York before moving to Somerset in 2017. She was a talented musician and enjoyed playing the piano and reading. Elaine will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her brother Arthur Roswell and his wife Betty, nephew Robert Roswell and his wife Barbara, and two nieces Margie Roswell, and Judy Weinstein and her husband Ken.
