The WUPJ is proud to share the URJ’s initiative across our global network, inviting Reform Jewish communities worldwide to engage in this critical moment for the future of Israel’s democracy and its founding values as the country approaches its upcoming national elections.
Titled “A Call to Shared Responsibility Ahead of Israel’s National Elections,” the statement is addressed from members of the Jewish Diaspora to members of the Israeli Jewish community.
Rooted in the Jewish teaching כל ישראל ערבים זה בזה — Kol Yisrael arevim zeh bazeh, “all Jews are responsible for one another,” the letter reflects on the relationship between Israel and the Diaspora and on the responsibilities that flow in both directions.
It addresses issues including democracy and the rule of law, Jewish religious pluralism, equality, security, engagement with Israel, and the relationship between the Jewish State and Jewish communities worldwide.
As part of the global Reform and Progressive Jewish Movement, WUPJ is sharing this URJ initiative with our global community and inviting those interested to read the full statement.
Individuals and organizations from Jewish communities outside Israel can also choose to add their names to the public letter through the URJ initiative.
