ISRAEL EMERGENCY FUND

A Call for Action from the World Union for Progressive Judaism

In these painful, uncertain days, Israel faces an existential threat. The recent attacks by the Iranian regime — a long-time instigator of terror and violence across the region — have shaken the foundations of security and hope. Civilian areas have been directly targeted by missile fire, resulting in casualties, displacement, and deep psychological trauma. Communities already worn down by months of war are now enduring even more pain and fear.

Many of the affected include members of our own Progressive communities — individuals and families who continue to live under threat and instability. And among the most vulnerable are the families of the 53 hostages still held in Gaza.

As Rabbi Sergio Bergman (WUPJ President) and Phyllis Dorey (WUPJ Chair) said in their joint statement:

We face a critical moment, and the days ahead will test the strength and resilience of the State of Israel and its people.
We mourn every life lost and stand with grieving families in Israel and beyond.
May hostages return, lives be spared, and peace prevail.

Now is the time to go beyond words.
It is time to act — with compassion, with urgency, and with purpose.

The WUPJ Israel Emergency Fund has been launched to offer tangible support where it is needed most.

In partnership with the Israel Movement for Progressive Judaism, we are making sure your support reaches those who need it most, for:

  • Emergency supplies and humanitarian aid

  • Temporary housing and relocation support for displaced families

  • Trauma counseling and mental health care

  • Assistance for the elderly and most vulnerable

  • Childcare, informal education, and safe spaces for youth

  • Financial relief for families impacted by the war
