Tel Aviv - Area Congregation Consecrates Donated Yemenite Torah

Kehilat Brit Olam of Kiryat Ono, near Tel Aviv, recently held a joyous reception for a Torah scroll, the purchase of which was made possible by funding from Britain’s Northwood and Pinner Liberal Synagogue and by donations from Brit Olam members and Bar Mitzvah families. The congregation’s spiritual leader, Rabbi Adi Cohen, and its lay leadership and members, led by chairwoman Janet Nussbaum, celebrated its arrival with great festivities. more...

Second IMPJ Congregation Dedicates State-Funded Building

The Progressive congregation in Ma’alot Tivon, near Haifa, recently dedicated a prefabricated structure for use as a synagogue, making it the second non-Orthodox congregation in Israel to be given a building by the state. The ceremony, held on May 29, saw the congregation move its two sifrei Torah in a joyous half-kilometer procession from its previous location – a municipal bomb shelter – to the new structure. more...

World Union Retains U.N. Accreditation

New York City, June 10, 2008 -- The World Union for Progressive Judaism (WUPJ), the international umbrella organization of the Reform Jewish Movement, successfully fought back an attempt to suspend its status as an accredited Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) at the United Nations, according to an agreement reached late Friday, June 6th by members of the U.N.
