Independence Day

As we approach Israel's 64th Independence Day, we first pause to remember all those who gave their lives in the defense of the State of Israel and we embrace and comfort the families of the fallen. As written in the famous poem by Israeli Poet Natan Alterman, The Silver Platter, "they are the silver platter on which the Jewish State was given".

Israel is celebrating 64 years of independence, and together with our brothers and sisters in Israel, we celebrate this miracle in our congregations and communities throughout the world.

We are proud of the State of Israel and its achievements, and the centrality of Israel is a cornerstone of our existence and our future as a Jewish people.

The World Union for Progressive Judaism is committed to working hand in hand with our Israeli Movement for Progressive Judaism and the global community in fulfilling the vision of Israel's Declaration of Independence signed 64 years ago, to continue building a Jewish, pluralistic and democratic state.
